Quia in the Classroom- Description of Presentation:
Have you ever felt that your students do not know how to study or just choose not to study? Did you ever feel like there must be a better way to grade quizzes than to manually be laboring over them for hours? If you are a person that can say no to both questions, well, then, congratulations and I believe we would all enjoy having your job. My experiences in teaching have been with a wide range of students, from A.P. students to Learning Support students. When it comes to studying and performing on tests, the hard workers continue to intrinsically push themselves to achieve. The ones we worry about, the ones that we push the most, and the ones that drain us emotionally are the lower achievers or the students that, maybe, just do not know how to study. Over the past year I have had amazing results with the Quia program that was introduced to me just a year ago in the Warwick CFF Collaboration Day. The Quia site is multi-dimensional, extremely fun for students, easy to get to, user-friendly, and cheap given the results it produces ($49 a year). Perhaps the biggest selling point I have for you is this- it will get your students to study for every quiz/test! Their parents will tell them to get off of the computer and they will have to inform their parents that they are studying for your quiz, and sometimes they even play the game with their parents! I have kids competing for how many times they played a review game to prepare for my quizzes/tests! Quia makes studying cool... that's so weird to think, but it does. And... you input your information... you make the games you want to make.... I do not represent Quia or have any relation to Quia.com, in fact I even paid the $49 yearly fee out of my own pocket just because I knew it was worth it. If you would like to see how to use the program and how to easily enroll, please stop on by Lab B during Session 2.
